HELSINKI Authentic James Reimer Jersey , March 23 (Xinhua) -- A high-profile visit by Finnish Defence Minister Carl Haglund to a U.S. aircraft carrier in the English Channel over the weekend has aroused political controversy in Finland, media reports said on Monday.

The Finnish Speaker of Parliament, Eero Heinaluoma, has expressed surprise with the visit and wondered what kind of message the visit was intended to send.

Interviewed on a commercial TV network Authentic Nick Bjugstad Jersey , Heinaluoma said the defence minister was "at the wrong place at the wrong time".

Haglund visited the USS Theodore Roosevelt along with Swedish Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist and British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon.

Haglund dismissed that his visit was in any way connected with the Finnish debate about a NATO membership.

The commander of the U.S. naval forces in Europe, admiral Mark Ferguson, told a Finnish national radio reporter on the carrier that the United States wants to show military preparedness.

"Decision on joining NATO is totally in the hands of the Finns," he was quoted as saying.

The visit by Haglund preceded joint maneuvres launched by the U.S. Authentic Connor Brickley Jersey , Finnish and Swedish air forces beginning on Tuesday.

Commenting on the criticism by Heinaluoma, Haglund said it would have looked odd that a Finnish minister cannot visit a U.S. air craft carrier if Finnish forces can exercise together with the USAF.

Haglund also pointed out the fact that Finnish jet fighters are F18 Hornets. "It is a U.S. naval airplane, not from the air force," he said.

The joint exercises take place mainly over international waters between Finland and Sweden. The aircraft carrier was sailing in the English Channel Authentic Jonathan Huberdeau Jersey , far from the Baltic Sea.

NAIROBI, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's David Rudisha believes he has nothing more to prove ahead of the 2017 season where he targets to run closer to his personal best time.

Rudisha, 28, wants to focus his energy on retaining his 800m title and will pitch camp in Pretoria to work out on his fitness after taking off two months rest.

"I must say running a world record is not something I am looking forward to now. This is because I have a long way to go to regain my fitness after the holiday and am running behind schedule.

"So I will set a mark of what I can do and running fast time is one of them but retaining my title in London 2017 is my major motivation," he said.

The World and Olympic 800m champion will not make his annual trip to Australia early next year for his start to the season. Instead, Rudisha, who is also the world 800m record holder, has opted to train in South Africa at the end of January as part of his preparations for his world title defence.

Rudisha, who won Middle Distance Athlete of the Year Award during Athletics Kenya Gala, said he will compete in several Athletics Kenya Track and Field meetings and Diamond League events ahead of the World Championships trials.

Over the years, Rudisha has always opted to race at the IAAF Melbourne World Challenge and the Perth Track Classic ahead of his competitive season.

"I won't be going to Australia this time around since I started my preparations late," said Rudisha, who retained his Olympic title in August, having won it for the first time at the 2012 London in a world record of 1 minute and 40.91 seconds. He won in Rio with the world leading time of 1:42.15.

"I just want to move my training camp to South Africa late January to February. I have always started my preparations early over the years but I have been late this time," Rudisha said. "I want to see how it goes this time."

Rudisha said his desire is to be in the best form during the World Championships set for August 4-13 in London.

WASHINGTON, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday failed to approve the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) legislation, which would have given aid to U.S. workers who lose their jobs as a result of U.S. trade deals with other countries, delivering a major blow to President Barack Obama 's trade agenda.

The U.S. House rejected the trade measure in 302-126 vote minutes after House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said on the floor that she would vote against the TAA. "If TAA slows down the fast track Authentic Aaron Ekblad Jersey , I'm prepared to vote against TAA," she said.

Under the rules for considering the trade package in the House, the TAA had been packaged with trade promotion authority (TPA), which would grant the president the fast-track authority to negotiate trade deals that cannot be amended by Congress. A vote against the TAA means the trade package Authentic Keith Yandle Jersey , which passed the Senate last month, could not become law for now, though the House on Friday voted 219-211 in favor of the TPA.

Democrats have traditionally supported the TAA, but are generally skeptical about the TPA measure. Liberal Democrats and activists from labor unions have launched campaigns in recent weeks to block the TPA legislation Authentic Roberto Luongo Jersey , arguing that trade deals have hurt U.S. workers and increased income inequality. They also said that voting against the TAA is the only way to stop the fast-track of trade deals.

Earlier Friday, Obama traveled to Capitol Hill to lobby members of the House Democratic caucus to back his trade agenda. Asked about the vote, Obama said "I don't think you ever nail anything down around here. It's always moving."

Failing to advance the trade legislation would delay the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, a top priority of Obama's second-term economic policy.

Other TPP participants have signaled that they would like to put their best offers on the table and conclude the Asia-Pacific trade deal Jared McCann Jersey , which covers 40 percent of the global economy, only after the Obama administration has secured the TPA from Congress.
