While clock ticks with Kirk Cousins, multiple mock drafts connect Redskins with Ba
Think about it: The NFL playoffs aren't even over yet. Most teams are in self-evaluation mode, readying decisions for free agency. Once NFL teams get to the NFL Combine in late February, that's when draft boards start to come to shape. And those draft boards aren't finalized for at least another month after a slew of college pro days.

Still, mock drafts are fun to look at and discuss, and draft experts Mel Kiper and Bleacher Report's Matt Miller are well plugged in.

While the Redskins still have about two months to try and work out a long-term deal with current quarterback Kirk Cousins, few people around the situation feel a lot of optimism. Cousins gave a lukewarm answer about wanting to stay in Washington, and for years he has talked about wanting to see his true value on the open market.

Washington head coach Jay Gruden discussed his frustration with keeping Cousins on a one-year deal, as the Redskins have done the past two seasons. The coach wants his QB to be with the team for the long-term, and that could become clear by the NFL Draft in late April.

If Cousins and the Redskins have not signed a long-term deal by the draft, and it seems unlikely, Washington should absolutely consider a QB with their first round pick.

Doug Williams,What passer to take is a different argument, and that will be up to Bruce Allen, Gruden and a collection of the Redskins highest scouts. There are also a number of QB-needy teams drafting ahead of Washington.

throwing for more than 4,As for Mayfield,Womens Jimmy Graham Jersey,600 yards with 43 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He completed an absurd 70 percent of his passes, he was certainly a star in college. As a senior he won the 2017 Heisman Trophy, extremely high accuracy for a college passer. He also ran for another 300 yards and five more scores.

There are questions about Mayfield. He might lack the height of traditional NFL quarterbacks,Womens Doug Baldwin Jersey, and he might lack the game of a traditional NFL pocket passer. Plus, he showed immaturity in on-field celebrations multiple times in 2017 and had an offseason arrest that resulted in a plea deal with Arkansas police.

Plenty of players will get drafted that showed immaturity and even had offseason arrests. That's nothing new.

or if it gets decided,For the Redskins, the biggest question remains Cousins' future. Once that's decided,Womens Kam Chancellor Jersey, the team will need to make a decision with the 13th pick. Looks like that decision could easily include Baker Mayfield.

Several Washington Redskins shared their thoughts about the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Despite the passing of civil rights icon nearly 50 years ago, the words and teachings of “the drum major for peace” still ring true in 2018.

Redskins starting quarterback Kirk Cousins shared a quote from the 1964 Nobel Peace winner about the importance of never losing hope. One of Dr. King’s enduring traits as a spiritual leader and human rights activist was his relentless expression of hope as a foundation for social change.

Redskins tight end Vernon Davis simply posted a tweet of the legendary activist whose life has been a point of inspiration for people all over the world. Since 1986 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr day has been celebrated as a federal holiday,Womens Amara Darboh Jersey, and it’s a time to reflect on our civil rights progress as a country

Not so fast, my friend. Such thinking is based on a small sample size. This year is very much an outlier in terms of the quarterbacks who make the conference championship games. Let's expand the sample size and look at the final four QBs standing in the previous six seasons.

There are 13 different quarterbacks here. Ten of those, Ryan, the two Mannings,Womens Derrick Morgan Jersey, Ryan was the third pick, Brady, Roethlisberger, Palmer, and Luck, are true franchise type quarterbacks. Of those, Newton, Wilson, Rodgers, five were first overall picks in the draft, and Roethlisberger was the 11th, and Rodgers went later in the first round. Only Wilson and Brady were late-round finds.

or at any time,At the time of their playoff games, all of the 13 quarterbacks were on the teams that drafted them. None of them were looking for work the previous March, for that matter.

As the Redskins decide if they should make a desperation attempt to retain Cousins or let him walk and start over at the most important position on the field, which data point should they consider? The most recent season in front of them, or the six prior years (and many more before that)?

000,Let's say you're looking to sell your house and you want to figure out a fair price. One comparable house down the street recently had sold for $200,000. But the previous six houses that sold in the last couple of months all went for around $300, Are you going to price your house based on the most recent sale? Or are you going to factor that in but pay much more attention to the six previous sales?

You have to step back and look at the larger sample size before using a particular set of facts as even a partial basis for a major decision with far-reaching ramifications.

With all that said, there are other factors at play besides what other teams have been able to accomplish. There are plenty of valid reasons for moving on from Cousins and those may outweigh the case for keeping him. But pointing to three quarterbacks on four teams and saying, "case closed" is way too simplistic an approach.

of course,The Vikings have one of those "good problems to have" at quarterback. If Case Keenum leads them to the Super Bowl, they might have to hold on to him and let the 25-year-old former first-round pick walk. He didn't put up huge numbers in his two years as the starter but the Vikings didn't ask him to do much. He's a pocket passer with mobility and it would be interesting to see what Jay Gruden could do with him. The devastating knee injury that cost him most of the last two seasons is, a major concern and it would have to be examined closely before any major commitment.

He struggled some in 2017 after the Bills acquired him from the Eagles. He spent the last five games on injured reserve with a knee injury. But when he was healthy for his first three seasons with the Eagles, he averaged 75 receptions for almost 900 yards and six touchdowns per season. The injury could help the Redskins get a quality receiver at a discounted price.

The seventh overall pick of the 2013 draft has had problems getting a foothold in the NFL. He has spent two years with the Cardinals and two in Dallas. Injuries have hurt him as well. But he is young (27) and if he's healthy he could be a good alternative to some of the more expensive options to fill the left guard spot.

The Redskins wanted to sign him away from the Eagles a year ago but they couldn't get a deal done. Logan went to the Chiefs on a one-year deal so he's set to be a free agent again at age 28. He's just the sort of nose tackle that Jim Tomsula likes (more athletic than heavy) and he could play on other downs as well. The Redskins have the same hole at nose tackle that they had a year ago and making another run at Logan is a no-brainer.

Logan was a second-round pick of the Bears in 2013 and if he signs with a new team in 2018 it will be his fourth in six NFL seasons. He is more solid than spectacular but the Redskins might just need someone who can play if they lose Zach Brown and/or Mason Foster and Will Compton to free agency.

A former three-star recruit, Authentic Amara Darboh Jersey, hauling in career highs in both catches and touchdowns during his senior season with 48 and five respectively. His most prolific season from yardage standpoint came in 2016, Califronia native Bobo was a solid contributor for the Buffaloes during his four-year collegiate career. The wide receiver received playing time as a true freshman in 2013 at wide receiver, however found playing time hard to come by in subsequent seasons. He bounced back in his final two though, good enough for a 12.5-yard average. Bobo had one of the catches of the 2016 college football season against Oregon: a game-winning,Authentic Doug Baldwin Jersey, amassing 548 yards receiving, one-handed grab in the corner of the end zone.

It is that overlapping time on the NFL calendar when most franchises begin preparing for next season while a fortunate few are still playing. And, on occasion,Authentic Kam Chancellor Jersey,Authentic Brett Kern Jersey, the way in which those successful teams have gone about getting to this point can be immediately instructive to everyone else.

The contract numbers for Cousins will be massive. It would cost the Redskins $34.47 million on a one-year deal to give him the franchise player tag for a third straight year. Any long-term deal with the Redskins or any other team probably would approach or exceed the $27 million-per-season price tag of Matthew Stafford’s record five-year, $135 million deal with the Detroit Lions.

Put that in the context of Keenum, Foles and Bortles making about $9.2 million combined in salaries and bonuses for this season. Will the Redskins and other NFL teams hit the pause button before handing out contracts worth $25 million per year or more to Cousins and other quarterbacks? Should they?

“There are some very unusual circumstances with these guys,” a personnel executive with an NFC team said of Keenum,Authentic Derrick Morgan Jersey, Foles and Bortles. “I don’t think anyone will try to copy it or should try to copy it.”

In Keenum’s case, it’s not like the Vikings went cheap at quarterback. Sam Bradford was supposed to be their starter, with Teddy Bridgewater on the mend from the injury that caused them to trade for Bradford in the first place. Keenum,Womens Brett Kern Jersey, who is making $2 million in salary and bonus money this season, was added as an insurance policy. But Bradford got hurt. Bridgewater wasn’t ready to return, and Keenum played so well when he got his chance that Coach Mike Zimmer had little choice but to leave him in the lineup.

With Foles, it’s not as if he was responsible for the Eagles being the No. 1 seed in the NFC. That was very much the doing of second-year quarterback Carson Wentz,Authentic Trent Williams Jersey, $11 million contract — with a $3 million signing bonus and a $1 million salary for this season — to be a backup, who was a front-runner for the NFL’s MVP award before suffering a season-ending knee injury in December. Foles had been signed to a two-year, and the Eagles turned to him only out of necessity.

And when it comes to Bortles, he is supposed to be a prized player. The Jaguars chose him with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2014 NFL draft with the idea that he would be a franchise quarterback. And while there have been glimpses of that during his four-year NFL career, like when he had seven touchdown passes and no interceptions in a three-game stretch in December, he has not been consistently reliable.

But if he remains in Jacksonville, he will not be an inexpensive quarterback much longer. His four-year, $20.65 million rookie deal, which pays him $3.237 million this season, is expiring, and the Jaguars have exercised his fifth-year option for next season at a cost of $19.053 million. That is guaranteed only for injury, so the Jaguars still could decide to move on.
